Kulumun Ako: Working with Indigenous students Meegan Hall, Victoria University of Wellington This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to develop their own cultural competence, or the cultural competence of their work team, to better engage with Indigenous students. It offers participants an opportunity to learn about Indigenous students in higher education and explore the meaning and importance of relevant Indigenous terms and concepts. Drawing on the ZePA model for language revitalisation (Higgins & Rewi 2014), participants will be invited to reflect on their own capacity and approach for working with Indigenous students. They will then develop a customised, research-based plan for increased engagement with Indigenous students at their institution. Participants will also consider some of the obstacles they may face, and identify effective strategies to mitigate them. |

The Higher Education Health Providers Professional Focus Group would like to invite you to join us to discuss hot topics around supporting students health and wellbeing, the PFG is interested in hearing from others about innovations, challenges and ideas as the landscape of health and wellbeing changes. University health and wellbeing services play a key role in student satisfaction, retention and employability but maintaining service delivery can be challenging with increasing demand for technology driven service delivery, funding challenges, compliance and regulatory requirements. Please come along and join in the conversation, if you have any topics or ideas please email kim-jane.turudia@deakin.edu.au I will collate and use to lead the discussion, look forward to seeing you there. |
The Student Advisors Professional Advisors Focus Group, which is made of staff who work in the following specialist areas: Student Welfare, Housing Officers, finance literacy, International Student Advisors, Centrelink and other non-administrative focused staff, would like to invites you to join us for a conversation on just what is it we do for students and what are the challenges we face in doing our work with students? This is a two-way conversation, so we would love to hear what insights and suggestion you might have for us as a Professional Focus Group. The session will also encompass the opportunity to have a discussion on how can we better reach out and communication with each with the aid of technology with the aim of developing a Community of Practice (CoP). We, if time permits would like to have a discussion of the ANZSSA Quality Standards for Student Advisors document. Please feel free to contact me either by phone on 04 04 05 46 48 or email stuart.martin@vu.ed.au if you would like to assist with this session or have any questions or suggestions. |

The forum provides an opportunity to discuss current and emerging trends, the challenges facing student services and the impact this may be having on post-secondary education counselling services. |
First year experience and peer mentoring professional focus group is an excellent forum that discusses the challenges and issues faced by professional staff who are responsible for first year experience, and peer mentoring programmes within their institutions. This forum allows you an opportunity to discuss the topics related to transition, retention and success with your colleagues. We will also look into latest trends across the sector related to peer mentoring, and the impact that it can have on students If you have any other ideas or suggestions around what you would like to see in this forum, please email v.minhas-taneja@auckland.ac.nz |
